Cell Culture Waste
Always use autoclavable bags for disposal of flasks, gloves and other disposable equipment used with tissue culture. Make sure these bags are placed inside the Biohazard container that is provided for that room.
Remove as much liquid as possible from the flasks before disposing of them.
DO NOT PUT SHARP OBJECTS INTO THESE BAGS. Place sharp objects, such as Pasteur pipettes, into the appropriate Sharps containers (See Sue), which prevent the sharp object from poking through.
Autoclave the waste on a regular basis. Weekly is a good schedule. Do not let waste sit so long that it begins to smell and attract vermin.
Autoclave Specifications: "Liquids" setting for 45 minutes (minimum). If you have any questions regarding tissue culture or disposal, please contact the
Biosafety Officer
by email, at X2507, or the main safety number at X7233.
